evo Magazine App Reviews

Excellent magazine, now with an app to match

Excellent revision addresses all of the issues of the previous app version. Content is now delivered immediately, not as fragmented (and seemingly random) updates over the course of the month. The content is still stellar, and now has an app that does it justice.

A welcome change

I have spent only a few hours with the new Evo App, but I can say that I am very impressed. I have appreciated both the passion for the work and the quality of the writing for several years with the old "app" and the new format only make it easier to access. I look forward to each new issue far more than the business publications...which help support my auto-addiction. Thanks for that!

The best automotive magazine

Truly the best auto magazine available. Even though some of the cars are not available in the US market, there simply is nothing better. New app is great and works flawlessly..... At last

Why change the old app?

Old app was a lot better; why being tied to a magazine format that does not makes sense in the digital world.

Finally

Im glad evo finally, FINALLY moved to a magazine format instead of the dribble of articles every few days. The print version was always my favorite car magazine, so switching a few years ago to the old app on my iPad was disappointing. It never captured the feel of the print version for reasons I cant entirely explain. Ive only read one new issue, but it is much better and Im hopeful itll be compelling reading like it used to be.

Best Car Magazine

EVO Magazine is the best car magazine on the planet, bar none. Best Writers, Photographers, Drivers, etc. No boring cars. Excellent editing. What R&T and C&D were 30 years ago, but with a British twist, and far better card stock on the Magazine.

New update is a step backward for everyone but my 60 year old father

Its unfortunate that the new update is essentially a magazine a digital form. The previous iteration allowed you to search articles by featured make, model etc, across all of EVO issues and only download the specific articles you wanted to read, even if they were several years old. Within a few seconds I could have every Porsche article written over the last several years downloaded to my phone, or the same with a specific column. It seems this functionality has been completely lost it now. If you want to find an article from the past, you must download each and every issue and thumb through the contents. At which point you must ask yourself, why even use an app in the first place? Unfortunately now its just like a magazine has been plopped onto my phone. A "dumb" magazine popped on a "smart" phone does not make much sense. Sadly, this app stubbornly refuses to take advantage of the fundamental technology that makes apps powerful, interesting, or even useful. And this is coming from a guy who grew up on magazines and honestly preferred them exclusively pretty much until the prior iteration of the EVO app. We now have a mini magazine in a less digestible format that is ever so slightly more portable. I guess you cant please us all can you? As always the written content remains top-notch.

Uhhh...

The new version of this app is horrible. Easiest way to put it.

Stick with a real magazine....

This upgrade of the app is a complete down grade and disappointment.

What about the issues Ive already PAID for?!

These clowns need to pull their fingers out and FAST. I cannot access past issues that I paid for. They want me to purchase a subscription- why on Earth would I throw good money after bad? Avoid EVO Magazine online.

Runs very well

The app runs smoothly and looks great. I love evo and this is a fun way to read the latest issue.

WAY too expensive. Terrible new format.

Love the magazine and one of the best features of the digital edition was the significantly lower cost than the newsstand edition. Now that theyve upped the price of a one year subscription to sixty bucks, Im done. Thats absolutely INSANE for a digital magazine subscription! And the new format of constantly streaming articles to the app rather than a basic, nice monthly magazine is a really bad idea. Top Gear is better quality at almost half the price. Bye bye Evo.

App update

Bummer. New format is terrible. Canceling online subscription. Was good...

Great content, app needs work

New app is a big step backward. Gone is the option to download the entire magazine at once, instead you have to download each article individually which is ok when youre at home with a fast internet connection. Absolutely terrible over LTE or spotty wifi. I just spent 30 minutes trying to download an article with my LTE enabled iPad. No luck. They need to add the ability to queue up multiple article downloads and include a progress meter (duh), because watching the "article downloading" screen is incredibly frustrating when you have no idea if it is working. Love the magazine content, hate the new app. Please fix this!!!

Great magazine, wonky app

Love the content. Wish the delivery were more intuitive.

The Thrill of Crashing

Loved the paper mag, loved the original iPad version. Did not love the new layout but I decided to keep reading because the content and the writers are so good. However, every time I try to read a new article the app crashes. My patience is running out and Im thinking about canceling my subscription. Fix it.

A bad update

The previous app is very good, this one is not good at all. I am not buying just the pdf version

Updated App is awful AVOID

I used to subscribe to the print version. Since back in the 90s. Changed to the iPad version a while back and renewed for a year, happy that this was a good mag. One month later the update. Much worse, the app keeps crashing. I havent finished one article in the new format. I upgraded to ne iOS just for evo. I am sorely disappointed that I paid for a Year upfront for something which does not work. AVOID,

Good Content, Awful App

The old app was the BEST online magazine around. The new format mostly crashes and when it doesnt you only get an article at a time. If the app doesnt provide offline viewing of the WHOLE magazine I will be canceling the subscription I have had for years. Very disappointing.

Great content, terrible app

Their new app is terrible. It crashes all the time, impossible to read an article. You cant easily download content for offline reading (magazines on airplanes anyone?) nor can you find out if you even have the latest content. This is a terrible update and means Ill be canceling my subscription till they sort it out. Pretty sad, clearly didnt do much testing or get user feedback.
